EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATION
How do I add a candle or another part to equipment?
Use the equipment’s compatible configuration slot, keep the part available at camp and verify the resulting assembly instead of matching names alone.

QUICK ANSWER
Configure the base equipment at camp and fill a compatible empty slot with the matching part.
Open the equipment you want to modify and check its empty slots first. A part that sounds related may still be incompatible, while the equipment page shows which component type each slot accepts.
WHAT TO DO
Open the base equipment, not only the part
Find the helmet, weapon or other base item and inspect its assembly section. Empty slots show what the body can accept. The Helmet Candle page describes the component, but compatibility is decided by the helmet configuration that exposes a candle slot.
Do not infer compatibility from material or rarity. A copper candle is not automatically accepted by every copper or metal helmet. Follow the explicit slot and component relationship.
WHAT TO DO
Perform configuration where the game exposes the parts
Return to camp and make sure the component is available to the configuration interface. Open the base item’s Configure action, select the compatible empty slot and choose the component. If the part is not offered, recheck the exact item, slot and where the part is stored.
Use the equipment page to find compatible slots and compare the expected result. Then open Configure in the game and make sure the exact part from your stash appears as an option before planning the rest of the loadout.

Review the result instead of assuming every slot is an upgrade
After fitting the part, inspect which values or effects changed and where they came from. Some components add utility, some alter combat values and some may only be relevant to a particular use. More filled slots do not guarantee a better item for every loadout.
Check current durability and the final item footprint before the next expedition. The selected site model is a planning comparison; the live configured item is the one you will carry and risk.
For a Helmet Candle, also decide whether freeing a hand from a separate light is worth the component choice and the limits of that light source. Configuration is strongest when it solves a loadout problem. If the fitted part does not change the decision you need to make, keep the slot open until a clearer use appears.

Check these four things before you leave
- Open the destination equipment’s assembly.
- Confirm a compatible empty slot exists.
- Keep the component available at camp.
- Review changed values after fitting it.
One last check before you leave
Check inventory counts, remaining durability, learned recipes, quest progress, random spawns and whether the intended route is open. Doing this before spending materials or setting off can save a wasted trip.
